Could You, Would You On a Train? Would You, Could You in the Rain?

I’m taking a poll.  If you could switch careers today and become a public school teacher, would you?

Nope, no thank you! Children scare me. Teachers deserve hazard pay.

I think some of them used to get hazard pay if they agreed to teach in certain inner-city schools for five years…or something like that.

I actually seriously think about it often as something I might do.

Teaching in a classroom is an amazing, fulfilling line of work…it’s all the other crap that makes it such a bummer.

NO!! I worked as a short term sub for the first year that I was out of Collage. I got $40/ day and treated like dirt. The kids could be great or bad. One kid threw a desk at me. Two kids tatooed themselves in class. No person should be expected to put up with that kind of behavior. When I spoke to the assistant principal he assure me that it was okay, and that they expected about 20% of the kids to end up in prison. He told me not to expect anything different if I worked full time. I Quit and took a job delivering pizza. Less stress and more money. That was years ago I have placed my daughter in a private school where they can control the kids or remove them. I also think that the teachers are better taken care of. It sucks, I debated home schooling in part because of everything I just noted.

More money delivering pizza?! I don’t know why I’m shocked. I’m sure it would be the same today.

I would. I had a lot of amazing teachers during my K-12 years and I would love to make a positive impact on a child’s life.

I got into the profession because some of the amazing K-12 teachers I had. I hope this generation will still feel it’s worth it.

The core of the issue is how much you love teaching. If you only like teaching, you might be inclined to put up with some of the extraneous bs to do your job. If you love teaching….you might be inclined to wish you’d never started since the reality is so far removed from its namesake.
