First question: How did he make it through his first three classes and nutrition wearing that?
Second question: California Standards Test – does he have an app for that?

Haven’t seen that shirt out here in the “sticks”, but the new most popular one here is a picture of all the Angry Birds with the caption “Flippin’ the Bird”. Maybe I’m old fashioned – but I find it offensive and off color. We won’t let them wear shirts with alcohol or tobacco logos, but we don’t bat an eye when they wear that one?
My 16 yo son wanted to buy a NIKE shirt for school that said in large block letters “GO HARD”. Needless to say, that purchase was NOT MADE! I explained why it was offensive, and why I felt it didn’t belong in a school. What am I to do when his peers are wearing “Flippin the Bird” and nothing is said to them?
Are we really THAT afraid of parents or kids that we won’t take the time to explain why it’s inappropriate?

I was a dean for many years in an inner-city school and a large part of my job included enforcing our pretty lenient dress code. What I learned in those years was that most students just wanted to see how long they could get away with it before they got caught (then always proclaimed not to understand the double entendre of a statement like ‘Go Hard’ and would beg me to explain) and that the parents who bought the shirts wanted to be the “cool” parents. I’m all for the ‘Flippin the Bird’ shirt for teens WHEN THEY’RE AT THE MALL (or wherever they go these days), but at school? Please.
